Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Tofu Katsu
  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture—wrap in a kitchen towel and place a weight on top for 15-20 minutes. Slice into 1/2-inch thick slabs.
  2. Set up a dredging station with flour, beaten egg (or flax egg), and panko breadcrumbs. Coat each tofu slice in flour, then egg, and finally panko.
  3. Heat oil in a skillet about 1/4 inch deep over medium heat until shimmering (about 350°F). Check readiness with a pinch of breadcrumbs.
  4. Fry the tofu slices in the hot oil for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate.
  5. Drizzle with tonkatsu sauce and serve with rice or salad. Enjoy your homemade Tofu Katsu!
