  • 1 medium yellow onion White onions can work in a pinch.
  • 2 cloves garlic Freshly minced enhances flavor significantly.
  • 1 jar jarred tomato sauce A sweet marinara like Classico’s is a fantastic choice.
For the Lasagna Layers
  • 12 ounces lasagna noodles Oven-ready or uncooked traditional noodles can be used.
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese Swap with cottage cheese for a different spin.
  • 16 ounces mozzarella cheese Adding extra parmesan can enhance flavors.
For the Finishing Touch
  • 1 bunch fresh basil Substitute with parsley for a milder flavor.
  • ½ cup water Crucial to prevent sticking and drying.

Equipment

  • Crockpot

Method

Step-by-Step Instructions for Crockpot Lasagna
  1. In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until almost fully browned, about 5-7 minutes. Add diced onion, minced garlic, salt, and pepper. Mix in the jarred tomato sauce and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  2. Spray the interior of the crockpot with non-stick cooking spray. Layer a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom. Break the lasagna noodles into manageable pieces and place over the sauce, followed by dollops of ricotta and a sprinkle of mozzarella.
  3. Repeat layering with meat sauce, broken noodles, ricotta, and mozzarella, creating about three layers in total.
  4. Pour a second jar of tomato sauce over the top, sprinkle additional mozzarella on top, and pour water around the edges. Cover and cook on high for 3 hours or low for 6 hours.
  5. After cooking, let it rest for 10 minutes. Garnish with freshly chopped basil or parsley and serve warm.
