Step-by-Step Instructions for Italian Bread
  1. In a stand mixer bowl, combine lukewarm water, brown sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Once the yeast is foamy, add olive oil, salt, Italian seasoning, and 3 cups of flour. Mix on low speed until a soft dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and place it in a warm area. Let it rise for about 30 minutes until doubled in size.
  4. Turn the dough onto a floured surface, divide into two, and shape into loaves. Place on a baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Brush tops with egg wash and score slits for expansion.
  6. Bake for approximately 30 minutes until golden brown and hollow when tapped. Let cool slightly before serving.
