Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add sliced smoked sausage to the skillet and sear for about 3–4 minutes per side.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the chopped medium onion for approximately 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in minced garlic cloves and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  5. Add the uncooked long-grain rice, stirring to coat and toast for about 2–3 minutes.
  6. Pour in chicken broth, barbecue sauce, and soy sauce if using, stirring until combined.
  7. Return the seared sausage to the skillet, mix well, and let it simmer covered for 18–20 minutes.
  8. Fluff the rice with a fork, season with salt and pepper to taste.
  9. Garnish with chopped green onions or parsley and serve hot.
