Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil over high heat.
  2. Once boiling, add in the fresh green beans and blanch them for just 1 minute.
  3. Immediately transfer the beans to an ice-cold water bath to halt the cooking process, then drain and set aside.
  4. In a large skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat.
  5. Add the sliced onions and season them generously with salt and pepper. Sauté for about 5-8 minutes until softened and translucent.
  6. Lower the heat slightly and continue cooking the onions until caramelized to a deep golden brown, around 15 minutes.
  7. If needed, deglaze the skillet by adding 1/4 cup of broth to enhance flavor.
  8. Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  9. Wipe out excess fat from the skillet and add another tablespoon of butter. Once melted, incorporate the blanched green beans.
  10. Add red pepper flakes, and season with salt and pepper to taste. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until heated through.
  11. Transfer the sautéed green beans with French onions to a serving dish and enjoy immediately.
