My heart skipped a beat as if I were twenty-six years old all over again.
I hid behind a large pillar. I boarded last. Seat 14C. Way back. The doors closed.
The aircraft pushed back from the gate. Then his voice echoed through the cabin speaker.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking.” I smiled, expecting the usual flight updates.
Then he paused for a moment. “Before we depart tonight, I would like to do something I have never done on a flight,” he said.
“There is a very special person on this plane tonight. Someone who means absolutely everything to me.”
I felt the heat rush up to my face. I thought he had spotted my name on the passenger manifest.
