“He is my father.” A murmur spread across the courtroom. Robles suddenly stopped smiling.
Sofía placed a folder on the judge’s desk. “And I’m here because the man sitting in that chair is not a thief.”
She opened the folder. “He is the victim.” The judge looked down at the documents.
Then his expression changed. “What is this?” Valeria stepped forward. “The original financial records from the school.”
Lucía placed another envelope beside them. “And the security footage from the storage room.”
Robles stood up. “That evidence is irrelevant.” Sofía turned toward him.
“No.” Her voice became cold. “It’s the reason you’re going to prison.”
The courtroom exploded with whispers. Chema looked at his daughters in disbelief.
He had spent twenty-four years protecting them. Now they had come back to protect him.
The judge reviewed the documents silently. One page. Then another. Then another.
Finally, he looked up. “Mr. Robles…” The principal’s face changed. “Would you like to explain why these records show the missing materials were transferred using your authorization?”
Nobody moved. Nobody breathed. Chema stared at the man who had tried to destroy his life.
Then Sofía placed one final piece of evidence on the table. A document.
Signed. Stamped. And dated two years earlier. The judge picked it up. His eyes widened.
